About the region Calabria

Calabria is mysterious and enchanting, captivating with its uniqueness and wildness. Long ago, the Greeks chose the name Italy for this region of the peninsula and founded settlements that quickly flourished, as a result of which the current region of Calabria was once called Magna Graecia. Many nations replaced each other, and they all left their mark. Even in our time, countless folk traditions have retained a strong connection with the past. One example is the Castello Aragonese of Charles V.

The harsh and wild nature of the landscape enchants the tourist who comes to Calabria. Delightful beaches, for example, in Tropea, where the gardens come right to the sea, or in Capo Vaticano, recognized as the most beautiful coast, where between high cliffs you will find many coves, beaches and granite reefs … It is not for nothing that the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria received the name of the Coast of the Gods, known throughout the world for the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea, white sandy beaches and radiant sun.

Dino Island with the amazing charm of its caves near the coast of Praia a Mare is a real pearl of Italy.  These heavenly places compete with the wildness of the Aspromonte and Sila mountains.

The Sila National Park is set in magnificent forests with a rich fauna. Don’t forget to visit Catanzaro, dominated by the Fortezza dei Borgia, and Reggio Calabria, where you can see the precious bronze statues of Riace in the archaeological museum.

In Calabria you will find the purest sea shimmering with thousands of shades, white sandy beaches, a whirlwind of emotions, extraordinary evidence of great civilizations of the past and unforgettable hospitality of the Calabrians.

Two incomparable coastlines will amaze you with their colorful sea and luxurious beaches with magnificent nature. Tropea is located on the Tyrrhenian coast, the views of which can compete with the best places of the azure and emerald coasts of France and Sardinia. It is from the Tyrrhenian coast that you can go on one of the most unforgettable and romantic excursions to the Aeolian Islands, which are an indispensable destination for travelers on private yachts and world stars of the first magnitude (Naomi Campbell, Giorgio Armani, Flavio Briatore, Dolce and Gabbana, etc.).

Soverato is located on the Ionian coast, and here you will enjoy the hospitable sea, gentle sea water, and also have the opportunity to go on an excursion to Puglia in Bari, to the relics of St. Nicholas and enjoy the views of the unique Trulli in Alberobello.

Calabria with its natural beauty will not leave indifferent even the most sophisticated travelers!

About the Region

Sunny Calabria is located at the “tip” of the Italian boot with a coastline of 800 km. Calabria is an oasis located between two seas. From the West, Calabria is washed by the Tyrrhenian Sea, and from the East – by the Ionian Sea.

Calabria has 5 provinces (Catanzaro, Cosenza, Crotone, Reggio di Calabria, Vibo Valentia), but when we talk about Calabria, we are actually talking about two coasts with conventional centers – Tropea (Tyrrhenian coast) and Soverato (Ionian coast), – two party cities full of life and natural beauty.

Calabria will certainly amaze the traveler-tourist with its sharp contrasts, natural and landscape “anomalies”, its ecological “leaps”, the versatility of “characters”, the combination of different cultures and, finally,

its ancient history, deep in which the roots of Mediterranean and European civilizations go.

Calabria is an area of numerous cultures and traditions, intertwined in a single tolerant lifestyle that accepts them all, emphasizing the peculiarity of each: the ancient Greek rituals, the Waldean cult, the language, literature and customs of the Albanian settlements.

Travelling through Calabria today means rediscovering the charm and peace of ancient historic villages scattered across the hills, mountain terraces overlooking the sea, the strong and sunny aromas and flavours of the local cuisine.

Calabria is a modern region. Airports, railways, roads and highways make it easy to travel through one of the most picturesque regions of Italy.

The main cities of Calabria – Catanzaro, Cosenza, Crotone, Reggio Calabria, Vibo, Valencia – are hospitable and well-equipped, and are the starting points of interesting routes.
