Excursion routes

Welcome to Calabria!

Instead of an introduction

There is no doubt that for every person who has escaped from the daily routine and come on holiday to Calabria, it is very important to spend these treasured two, and for those lucky, even more weeks usefully and with pleasure.

For our guests at Pizzo Beach Club we would like to offer several car routes that can help you learn more about this wonderful Italian region and, most importantly, see everything with your own eyes. For these trips you only need a car, preferably a navigator and, of course, the desire to get unforgettable impressions. By the way, I am firmly convinced that without car trips, short or long, without exploring the nearby wonderful, original and hospitable towns.
without visiting numerous restaurants and cafes, without getting to know the local cuisine, without meeting the smiling, friendly and dignified Calabrians, the impressions of a trip to Calabria will be far from complete.

However, I would like to make a reservation right away that we will only indicate the route, approximate time and approximate mileage. Information about attractions is best found in guidebooks or on the Internet.

So, let’s start by looking at the roads we’ll be using. There are two main roads along the Tyrrhenian coast:

1
Motorway A3 Naples – Reggio Calabria (Napoli-Reggo Calabria), green road signs;
2
SS. 18 (Strada stratale Tirrena Inferiore), blue road signs.

I have not encountered any toll roads in Calabria. The toll highway from Rome towards Calabria ends in the Salerno area, and the next time you encounter toll roads is in Sicily.

Once you leave the gates of our complex, you immediately find yourself on the SS18 and, turning right and reaching the railway bridge, you come to the first key road junction. To the right in the direction of travel is the exit to the A3 motorway and then follow the signs to Salerno [Lamezia Terme (airport, Due Mari shopping and entertainment complex), Catanzaro, Cosenza, Salerno itself, Naples, Rome]. Remember for further orientation that this direction is almost always marked as Salerno at all junctions in Calabria, both on green and blue highways. The opposite direction points to Reggio di Calabria [Vibo Valentia, actually Reggio Calabria, Sicily].

Straight ahead on the SS18 towards Pizzo, Vibo Valentia, Tropea, Capo Vaticano.

Important note!  There are two main roads through Pizzo – the upper and the lower. You will see the fork immediately after passing under the A3 bridge. The lower one goes through the historic center of Pizzo to Vibo Marina, and then you can go via Tropea to Capo Vaticano.
The upper one is actually a continuation of the SS18 to Vibo Valentia, but there is also a fork to Capo Vaticano.

After leaving the complex, turn left onto the SS18 and you will reach Lamezia Terme.

That is, you can easily travel to Lamezia Terme and the airport both along the A3 and along the SS18. And in Lamezia Terme there is a second important junction, where you can turn onto the SS290, get to the Due Mari shopping and entertainment complex and then get to the Ionian coast.
